Pleiades

by Simeon Davis Group

/

about

"Pleiades" is a through-composed piece blending elements of Partido Alto, Rumba, Post-Bop jazz, and Bartok's 20th century classical style to programmatically trace the myth of the Pleiades, the seven daughters of the Titan Atlas. Using carefully orchestrated timbres of violin, voice, soprano sax, and trombone atop the piano, drums, electric bass and electric guitar, "Pleiades" follows the sisters as they are kidnapped, ferried across the sea, rescued by Heracles, and returned to their father.
